Boruc Extends Contract

Boruc signs on until 2011. However he also notes that this does not mean he still might not be available to clubs (in particularly AC Milan who has shown interest). After all, a contract does by no means guarantee he will be staying put. The fear at Celtic likely was that with his contract running out this year that he could leave the team and Celtic not get as much (if anything at all) as they would otherwise if he were locked up until 2011.

With an expiring contract Celtic would have had little bargaining power as clubs that may not have wanted to pay a large transfer fee could have simply waited for his contract to expire and have him sign on with them without having to go through Celtic or an enormous transfer fee. But now that he is under contract for three more years, there is a good likelyhood that should Celtic sell him in the near future they will command a much more handsome return for him.
